The past couple weeks I've been juggling homework, hanging out with friends and getting over my sickness. Even though it may sound tiring (which it has been), its been a BLAST! I'm making friends that I know will last a lifetime. I should let you all know that not only should I be fluent in spanish by the time I come home, but also in German. haha! I love listening to my German roommates and when I don't know what they are saying...I just chime in and say the only german I know..."Wasserburger".
I am loving my new apartment even though we haven't had hot water for the past 2 weeks!!! I believe they are going to fix it today...but who knows. If "today" was said by a peruvian...it may be done in 3-4 days at the earliest. No bromeo...jaja!
This weekend I plan to stay in Lima and read for my Narrativa class, go out dancing with my friends, possibly go for a bike ride outside Lima and begin training for a 10k race. Don't worry Dad, of course this all depends on how well I'm feeling! haha!
Next weekend I think my friends and I are planning a trip to Trujillo which is north of Lima on the coast. I promise that soon enough I will have a website where you can all look at my pictures!
Love,
Kristi

What a Month!
WOW! It has been quite some time since I've last posted something to my blog. Sorry for the delay. I have been extremely busy getting ready for school to start, school starting, traveling the past 3 weekends, and now my first exams are coming up! First of all, my German roommate and I decided to move out of our house and into an apartment closer to the bus stop for school. It is a lot cleaner, safer and much more convenient than our other house was. Two weekends ago a group of my friends here (people from Canada, Germany, Holland, France, Florida, California, Peru, Colombia and Brazil) and I went to Huacachina. It is an oasis surrounded by sand-dunes! We layed out in the sun, went sand-boarding (which sounds like it would be like snowboarding, but it most definitely is not), and got to go extremely fast in dune-buggies up and down the dunes. It was beautiful. I am trying to figure out a website to post my pictures so everyone can see them. I took pictures of the sunsetting among the sand-dunes and it was gorgeous.
Three weekends ago I went to Punta Hermosa with my Wisconsin friends. It was a blast! We stayed in a house with 5 beds for $5 a person. Not to shabby! And we were about 3 blocks from the beach! Finally sandy beaches! If I haven't told you already, the beaches in Lima are all rocks. It is still beautiful but it is hard to walk and lay out.
I made friends with a couple Colombians, and let me tell you....they are SOOOOO difficult to understand! So much slang and they talk so fast and it almost sounds like they are singing when the talk! It sounds really cool but sometimes I can't understand a word they are saying and I am nearly fluent! I went to the beach with them 2 mondays in a row and played football with them. I had to show them what American football is all about! hahahaha!
Classes started 3 weeks ago and I am finally getting the hang of things. I'm taking Contemporary Peruvian Narrative, gardening, cinema, female aerobics/sports and choir. Yes...yes, I know....they sound suuuper difficult and let me tell you, they are! haha! It's actually really nice to be in classes like that because they are more active which means I am forced to talk more with the spanish speakers. I actually have an exam tomorrow in my Narrative class so I don't even know why I decided to sit and write this. Needed a break I guess. The weather's getting cooler at night which is nice when I sleep.
Last weekend my friends and I went to Asia (no, not the country. It is a town about an hour and a half south of Lima) and stayed in a hostel near the beach. It was nice to lay out in the sun during the day and have a campfire at night right on the beach. We all sat around the fire and I really got to know everyone. Fue bien chevere!
This is just a summary of what I have done the past 3 weeks. I'll write again in the next few days to go in detail about some things! Miss you all!
